Investment 101 from Famous Children’s Stories

Lessons on life and love are not the only things that you can learn from children’s stories. In fact, you may learn a great deal about investments by simply reading about house-building pigs and smart-talking goats. Here are two important investment lessons that you may learn from The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Choose your investments carefully

The three little pigs built houses made from different materials: straw for the first pig, sticks for the second pig, and bricks for the third pig. Unfortunately for the three little pigs, a big bad wolf was determined to huff and puff at their houses. Because the materials used were not strong and sturdy, the house made of straw and the house made of sticks were easily blown in by the big bad wolf’s huffs and puffs. Because he invested in the expensive yet sturdy bricks, the third little pig saved himself from being the big bad wolf’s dinner.

Do not base your investment decisions on prices alone. Always go for the best – invest on items or companies that have the most potential to acquire value and yield profit, respectively.

Seize your opportunities immediately

The three Billy goats Gruff needed to cross the river to enjoy the yummy grass in the other side of the farm. However, the bridge that connected the two areas was guarded by a fearsome troll. To save themselves from getting gobbled up by the troll, the three Billy goats came up with smart alibis that convinced the troll to let them through: the youngest goat said his brothers would make a more satisfying dinner, the middle goat said his eldest brother would make the most gratifying feast, and the eldest goat gored the troll with his huge antlers.

Unlike the troll, you should never pass up on a good opportunity. Do not succumb to procrastination just because other people said something much better is one the way. You better grab your opportunities before they all pass you by.
