Frugal Living Tips

Frugality is often misunderstood. It is almost always associated with the words “miser,” “cheapskate,” “parsimonious,” and “stingy.” How come it’s rarely associated with “thrift,” “prudence,” and “practicality”? Living frugally, after all, is something that people should do in times of financial crisis. Here are some tips to help you start living frugally:

* Prepare your budget plan

The first thing you have to do to start living frugally is to prepare a personal budget plan: a financial plan allocating your personal income toward your expenses, debts, and savings. Prioritize important things in your list like food and transportation. Do not forget to include all your financial obligations (bills, insurance, debt, loans) in the list. Always try to keep a little money aside for your savings. You can also apply this tip when buying groceries. Before leaving the house, write down a list of all the items you need (not want) to buy and stick to it.

* Modify your shopping habits

It’s impossible for people to not shop at all, so just modify your shopping habits. If you are easily tempted to buy impulsively, then help yourself by staying away from stores. Living frugally, after all, requires you to stick with your budget plan. Unless you put it on your list, that designer trenchcoat is simply off limits.

* Cook your own food

Why join the long queue in McDonald’s when you can just have a nice homecooked meal? Cooking your own meal will not only improve your nutrition, but it will also help you increase your savings.
